Winning Teams at Entrepreneurial Business Plan Competition
at SUNY Rockland Community College Take Home $1,000
Suffern, NY - Eleven teams of students, three from SUNY Rockland Community College and eight from five Rockland County high schools, competed on December 5 for $1,000 in a business plan competition. Each team had two to three members. Winners:
North Rockland High School: Sitter in a Second
Students Nicole Esposito, Monica Callan, and Joseph Pane won $1,000 for their proposed business, Sitter in a Second, an online database of reliable, certified babysitters. Faculty advisors were Debra Jacoby and Tim Ahle.
RCC Students: You Name It, We Got It: Name Your Sport!
Students Devon Beuschel of Airmont and Jonathan Coe of Pomona won $1,000 for their proposed business, You Name It, We Got It: Name Your Sport!, an all inclusive sports warehouse dedicated to athletes of all sports levels. Their faculty advisor was Mr. Thomas Morley, Director, Small Business Development Center.
The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, Rockland County Chapter, and the Rockland Community College Business Department co-hosted the competition.
Each winning team received the grand prize of $1,000, which was funded by the New York Society of Certified Public Accountants, Rockland Chapter. Mr. Mitchell Gusler, CPA, Senior Partner, Rifkin & Company, and President, New York Society of Certified Public Accountants, Rockland Chapter, and Dr. Martin Lecker, RCC Professor of Business, presented the prizes.
Judges were comprised of representatives from the business community, CPA’s, and RCC faculty. They based their decisions upon a prescribed set of criteria as outlined in the New York State Small Business Development Center, "A Practical Guide to Preparing Your Business Plan." The event ended with special guest speaker, Mr. Howard Hellman, Founder and Chairman, All Bright Electric of West Nyack, N.Y.
