November 11 - Veterans Day Service
free and open to the public
Ramapo- Rockland Community College’s annual Veterans Day Service will be held on Monday, November 11 at 11:00 am. Honoring the veterans of the Vietnam Conflict will be a particular focus of the service this year.
November 11, 2013 (11:00 am)
Technology Center – Ellipse
Rockland Community College
145 College Road, Suffern NY 10901
For additional information please contact RCC’s Coordinator of Veterans Affairs: Jonathan Barnwell at 845-574-4105 or firstname.lastname@example.org
The service will include a Rockland County Veterans Proclamation with John Murphy of the Rockland County Legislature, and a presentation by Dr. Barbara Smith and Rosemarie Rogers who work with veterans in the Veterans Hudson Valley Art Therapy Project. Local veterans John H. Leighton, USMC; Barry Fixler, USMC; Jeremy Honey, USA; and Howard Goldin, USA; will also present an overview of the Vietnam Conflict. The years of war claimed the lives of more than 58,000 American service people, with far greater numbers of wounded and injured.
Poignant and profound images that draw on wartime experiences and memories are expressed through “shadowbox” art in a concurrent display installed in the second floor Atrium of the Technology Center. Created through the VA Center of Montrose’s art therapy program, the work will be on display from November 6 through November 21, and several veterans whose work is represented plan on attending the November 11 service.
Rockland Community College was designated a Military Friendly Campus by independent research reported in GI Jobs Magazine, and has several tuition scholarships, a private lounge, and organized activities and services for student veterans, administered by RCC’s Coordinator of Veterans Affairs, Jonathan Barnwell. All are welcome to attend the day’s events and the ongoing shadowbox display. Light refreshments will be served after the service.
