Toy Drive For Rockland’s Children Kicks Off at SUNY Rockland Community College

Suffern, NY - SUNY Rockland Community College kicks off toy drive for Rockland’s children identified by Social Services as needing assistance during the holiday season.

The Toy Drive Reception Kick-off will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Student Union Lounge on the main campus in Suffern. The College community is invited to pick up the name and age of a child presented on a "snow child" cut-out. The goal of the Toy Drive is to collect 200 toys to be distributed to 200 children within the county.

The Office of Student Involvement and the Community Involvement Committee (CIC), comprised of College faculty and staff, are working together this year to coordinate the Toy Drive to increase the number of toys collected to 200. The mission of CIC is to integrate the College community into the community at large. Past CIC member projects include the Heart Walk, Food Drive, United Way, Keep Rockland Beautiful and raising money for the Habitat for Humanity Club.

For more information about the Toy Drive, contact John Marra, Coordinator of Student Activities and Volunteer Services, at (845) 574-4302. To reach the Community Involvement Committee Toy Drive Coordinator, contact Lisa Schachter, MSN, RN, FNP, Nursing, at 845-574-4396, or contact the Community Involvement Committee Chair, Saeed Safaie, Professor, Science, at 845-574-4534.

Rockland Community College, a unit of the State University of New York, is located 25 miles northwest of NYC. The majority of its students transfer to four-year colleges, and many find immediate employment upon earning their associate's degree or certificate. The College also offers others, from preschoolers to senior citizens, the opportunity to simply learn something new. Quality education...at a price you can afford.
