SUNY Rockland Students Complete Emergency Medical Services Paramedic Certification Program
Suffern, NY - The 2007 Paramedic Achievement Ceremony will honor SUNY Rockland Community College students who have earned their Emergency Medical Services Paramedic Certificate.
Certificate holders earned 56 credits and completed 600 hours of clinical internships which included observing and assessing patients in hospital emergency rooms, Intensive Care Units, Critical Care Units, OB/GYN services, and operating rooms. The students will now be eligible to take the New York State Certifying Exam and also the National Registry Certifying Exam. Once students pass certifying exams, they are eligible to work anywhere in the state/country.Graduates will be in a prime position to seek jobs with professional fire departments, police departments and emergency service organizations, as well as in private industry in the Hudson Valley and in the metropolitan area. Some students will continue their education to earn an associate’s degree in Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
The guest speaker will be Vincent Cozzolino, Director, Hudson Valley Domestic Preparedness Community College Consortium. He will discuss the new Consortium which was formed when New York State awarded $4 million to SUNY Rockland, Ulster, Orange and Sullivan community colleges to jointly provide training in fields critical to domestic preparedness. The grant enables students throughout the Hudson Valley to take classes offered through Rockland, Ulster, Orange or Sullivan community colleges while remaining at their home campus. Students from those colleges will be able to receive degrees in fire protection technology, emergency management, emergency medical services, or basic police training in state-of-the-art distance learning facilities and specialized labs for consortium programs.
