SUNY Rockland Community College's Celebrated Student Literary Magazine Wins Major Competition
Suffern, NY - SUNY Rockland Community College's 2007 issue of the student literary magazine Impulse won second place in the Eastern Region of the Community College Humanities Association (CCHA) Literary Magazine competition for 2007.
This is the seventh year Impulse has won an award. The 2007 issue was co-edited by students John Amer, President, and Sreenath Vemuri, Vice President. David Pirell, adjunct faculty, Art, and his staff, students Earl Ricci and Laurie Homicki, ran production and design. Reamy Jansen, Professor, English, was the Impulse advisor.
Impulse is funded through student activities fees and has been publishing for more than 30 years. It has won several major awards from CCHA in writing, art, design and layout. The magazine is the work of designers, poets, photographers, painters, and writers.
Two student clubs, Art and Impulse, are primarily associated with the production of Impulse magazine. This semester, Sreenath Vemuri is President of Impulse and Chelsea Carbone, winner of the Henry V. Larom Award in fiction for two consecutive years, is Vice President. Reamy Jansen, Professor, English, is Impulse advisor. Last year a number of Jansen’s poems, personal essays, fiction and interviews were published. His essays were nominated for the Pushcart Prize. He is a Contributing Editor to The Bloomsbury Review of Books in Denver.
