Jewish and Indian Students Hold Memorial Service at SUNY Rockland Community College
for the Victims Slain in Mumbai Terrorists Attacks
Suffern, NY - In response to the recent terror attacks in Mumbai, India, the Jewish and Indian student clubs at Rockland Community College are joining forces for the event, "Mumbai Unity Memorial: Transforming Darkness to Light."
The Hillel Club and the Desi Club organized the event to honor the victims of the attacks, which include Indians, Americans, Israelis and others. One of the targets of the terrorists was a Jewish center, where at least six victims were murdered.
The students will invite participants to help create a “Kindness Chain,” comprised of papers indicating acts of goodness and kindness they pledge to do. The chain will be displayed in the Student Union. Students are asked to wear white shirts, as white has significance in both the Indian and Jewish cultures. The event will feature Indian and Hebrew music and guest speakers. Kosher and Indian refreshments will be served.
