Students Compete for $1,000 at Business Plan Competition

 

Student Entrepreneurial Business Plan Competition
at SUNY Rockland Community College

 

Each winning team will get the grand prize, $1,000

 

Suffern, NY - Area high school and college students will present their entrepreneurial ideas in a one-of-a-kind business plan competition at SUNY Rockland Community College.

Entrepreneurial Business Plan Competition

 

The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, Rockland County Chapter, and the Rockland Community College Business Department will co-host the business plan competition for area high school and college students in two separate categories.

 

The competition is designed to give students the opportunity to experience planning an entrepreneurship in both written and oral presentation formats.  The schools established teams that developed a business plan and PowerPoint presentation for a business that it believed would be successful in Rockland County.

 

Each winning team will get the grand prize, $1,000, funded by the New York Society of Certified Public Accountants, Rockland Chapter.

 

Judges will base their decisions upon a prescribed set of criteria as outlined in the New York State Small Business Development Center, "A Practical Guide to Preparing Your Business Plan." Judges are members of the College and the business community and include: Michell Gusler, President, Rockland County Chapter, NYS Society of CPA's; Mark Rothenberg, Rockland County Chapter Chair and District Director of SCORE; Larry Greenberg, Career Solutions and Rockland SCORE; Carlos Hernandez, Partner/CFO, The Vidal Partnership; Dana Malley, CPA, and College faculty members Lilia Juele, Director, Distance Learning and Instructional Technology; Cathy Roche, Associate Professor, Office Technology; Steven Hano, Professor, Accounting; Shamika Mitchell, Instructor, English, and Gray Orphee, Assistant Professor, Social Sciences.

 

The event will end with guest speaker Ann Marie Gaudio, founder and owner of Roxxy Blues, Inc., a full service marketing management company.
