Ramapo, NY - The Rockland Community College Speech and Debate Team ended the Spring 2010 season in victory when Zamir Ben-Dan and Ian Ridgeway beat Yeshiva University in a 3-0 decision in the Extemporaneous Debate final round at SUNY Rockland’s Public Forum Debate League Tournament on March 21.

Ben-Dan and Ridgeway advanced to the final round after winning three preliminary rounds of competition in a field of debaters that included SUNY Albany, Dominican College and Yeshiva University.  Fellow Rockland debater, Michael Croce, was the second place speaker in that division.

The debate topic for the Spring 2010 season--Resolved: that the United States should immediately halt further deployment of the Ground-Based Missile Defense system and drop plans for space-based missile defense.

At the previous tournament in February, Ben-Dan and Kimberly Lindemann were the second place team in the Extemporaneous Debate Division. Ben-Dan was also awarded the top speaker award in that division. Michael Croce took home the third place speaker award at the tournament and he and his partner took home the fourth place trophy for winning two of their three preliminary rounds of competition.

Also competing at tournaments this semester were Youssef Ben-Amoun, Brandon Evans, and Aika Ishige.
