Special Flag Raising Ceremony Celebrated Fall Enrollment Increase of 7%
at SUNY Rockland Community College

Suffern, NY - SUNY Rockland Community College raised a new College flag to celebrate the fall enrollment of 6,600 students, a 7% increase.

This flag-raising event was held on November 14 at the main entrance of the College in Suffern. Student government leaders and international students raised the flag together with senior College administrators, faculty and staff. The event preceded the international student Thanksgiving luncheon.

Nearly 500 more students are taking advantage of the opportunities and new programs at SUNY Rockland this semester. Enrollment grew from 6,138 in Fall ‘06 to 6,600 for Fall ‘07, an increase of 7%.

Enrollment is up in the following categories: full-time, part-time, first-time, continuing, returning and transfer students. The major increases are in Liberal Arts and Sciences, Nursing, Criminal Justice and Business. The increase in "FTEs," or full-time equivalent students, which is the formula used by the state to calculate state aid, is 5.3%.

"This year’s significant increase in enrollment tells us that the community is becoming increasingly aware of the many advantages of SUNY Rockland, which we find very gratifying," said Dr. Cliff L. Wood, President. "The word is out that the College offers a high-quality, affordable education and transferability to top four-year schools."

Online registration eases the enrollment process for many students, as does the convenience of having all student services, such as Admissions, Records, Bursar, Financial Aid and Advisement centrally located in the Technology Center.

New offerings include weekend programs in Nursing, Business and Liberal Arts. New classroom courses include Marine Biology, Chinese and Zumba. New online courses range from Automotive Technology and Fire Protection to Irish Literature and Art of Africa, Asia & the Americas.
