Ramapo, NY - The family of the late New York State Senator Thomas Patrick Morahan donated $10,000 to the Rockland Community College Foundation to benefit the Campus Fun & Learn Child Development Center, a non-profit child care center located on campus and open to the public.
In 2006, Senator Morahan procured state funding of $1.6 million towards building the facility, which opened Fall 2009.
The Center is housed in the brand new, state-of-the art Theresa Morahan Simmons Center, named in memory of Morahan’s late daughter, a local early childhood educator whose commitment to children, families, and education serves as an inspiration for RCC's teacher education and child care programs.
Joan Morahan Silvestri, the Senator's daughter, wrote to Dr. Cliff L. Wood, RCC President, "It was our father's desire to give these monies to organizations that would put the money to good use. He was confident that you would do just that."
"This donation will continue the legacy at the College that Senator Morahan has established on behalf of the children of Rockland County," said Wood.
RCC students who enroll their children may qualify for scholarships and subsidies for child care tuition, making it very affordable.
