Scholar-in-Residence Reappointed
at SUNY Rockland Community College

Received 2010 American Educational Research Association Relating Research to Practice Award

Ramapo, NY - The Rockland Community College Board of Trustees reappointed Dr. Edmund W. Gordon as Scholar-in-Residence for RCC’s Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning for the 2010-11 academic year.

Professor Gordon of Pomona, age 89, recently received the 2010 AERA (American Educational Research Association) Relating Research to Practice Award on June 28 in Princeton, N.J.

The American Educational Research Association, founded in 1916, is concerned with improving the educational process by encouraging scholarly inquiry related to education and evaluation and by promoting the dissemination and practical application of research results.

Gordon, a noted educational psychologist, has served as RCC's Scholar-in-Residence since Fall 2006 for the Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning. He assists faculty with projects related to pedagogy and student success, including the expansion of student support at RCC's Spring Valley Extension Center.

Gordon is the Richard March Hoe Professor of Psychology and Education emeritus and Director of the Institute of Urban and Minority Education, (IUME), at Teachers College, Columbia University, where he also served as Interim Dean from 2000 to 2001. He is also the John M. Musser Professor of Psychology Emeritus at Yale University, and is Senior Scholar-in-Residence at the College Board. In 2004, The Educational Testing Service created the Edmund W. Gordon Chair in Evaluation, Research and Policy in his honor. In 2005, Columbia University named its facility in Harlem the Edmund W. Gordon Campus of Teachers College.
