Reception Welcoming First Haitian Studies Scholar-in-Residence

Join Rockland Community College in welcoming RCC’s first Haitian Studies Scholar-in-Residence, Dr. Jean A. Francois, who will make a presentation about the Haitian Experience on February 18, 3 p.m.

REVISED: Due to an overwhelming response, the Haitian Studies Scholar-in-Residence reception has been moved from the Art Underground to the Student Union, Second floor, Room 3214.

Suffern, NY – In celebration of Rockland Community College’s 50th Anniversary, the community is invited to a reception welcoming the College’s first Haitian Studies Scholar-in-Residence, Dr. Jean A. Francois.

 

Thursday, February 18, 3 p.m.

Reception for Haitian Studies Scholar-in-Residence

Admission: Free and open to the public

Student Union, Second floor, Room 3214, RCC Suffern campus

The public is invited to join RCC students and faculty in welcoming RCC’s first Haitian Studies Scholar-in-Residence, Dr. Jean A. Francois, who will make a presentation on the Haitian Experience.

Dr. Jean A. Francois, Associate Professor of French, York College/CUNY, is a widely published author, playwright and poet. Francois earned a Ph.D. in French at the Graduate Center, CUNY, a Master of Arts in French literature at Hunter College, CUNY, and a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering at the Institut Supérieur technique d’Haiti.

Thanks to a grant secured by New York State Senator Thomas P. Morahan, Dr. Jean A. Francois will share scholarly perspectives on the Haitian experience in special seminars and as a guest lecturer in RCC classes during the Spring 2010 semester. As Haitian Studies Scholar-in-Residence, Francois will teach workshops on the Haitian Experience to students and faculty, guest lecturer in the course, Pluralism and Diversity in America, and help plan and participate in RCC’s Haitian Heritage Week celebrated April 19 – 23.
