Suffern, NY - According to data released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Association in July, the percentage of weekend nighttime drivers with a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) over .08 has consistently dropped.

In an effort to keep highways safe, Rockland Community College began providing the New York State Drinking Driver Program in 1989. Since that time, 514 seven-week classes have been provided to assist more than 10,000 drivers to review their driving skills and improve decision making.

RCC's program is a valuable tool in keeping the roads of our community safe," said RCC Criminal Justice graduate, Clarke Osborn ‘92, Chief of Police, Village of Suffern, Suffern’s first DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) officer.

Rockland Community College also provides the six-hour DMV Approved New York State Point and Insurance Reduction Program. “I Drive Safely” entitles licensed drivers and permit holders to a 10% reduction in the liability, collision and personal injury portion of their automobile insurance. All New York State insurance companies grant these deductions. This course may remove up to four points from the driving record. The next available course is offered on Saturday, October 3, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on the Rockland Community College Suffern campus. Fee: $42.
