RCC Honors Veterans with Week of Events

Memorial Day observances at the Onderdonk Veteran’s Ceremony located on the campus of Rockland Community College.

 

SUNY Rockland Honors Veterans with Week of Events

 

Free and open to the public

 

Suffern, NY - The Veterans Support Services Committee of SUNY Rockland Community College is hosting a week-long celebration in honor of veterans.

 

November 10, 12, 13

Veteran Military Memorabilia Exhibit

Hours: Tues, Thurs and Fri, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. and 4 – 7 p.m.

Cultural Arts Center Atrium

Veteran artifacts curated by Col. David Cahn USMC (R)

 

Tuesday, November 10, 9:30– 10:45 a.m.

Opening Ceremony

Technology Center, Room 8180 (Ellipse)

Program will include a Color Guard by Rockland County Marine Corps League, poetry reading and guest speaker, Barry Fixler, Rockland County Veteran of the Year.

 

Wednesday, November 11

Veteran’s Day

RCC has no day or evening classes in observance of Veteran’s Day.

 

Thursday, November 12, 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Technology Center, Room 8180 (Ellipse)

Panel Discussion

A panel of veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam and Operation Iraqi Freedom will discuss their experiences.

 

Thursday, November 12, 7 - 9 p.m.

Student Union, Room 3214 (second floor)

Lecture: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Lecture on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder by Dr. Laurence Kolman, clinical psychologist and Vietnam veteran, followed by reception

 

Friday, November 13, 10 a.m.– Noon

Student Union, Room 3214 (second floor)

Closing Ceremony

Guest speaker Bernhard Storch, a Jewish War veteran, will discuss his role in the liberation of concentration camps across Poland during WWII. The event will close with a poem and a short video by an RCC student.
