"Rockland Community College Day" Marks College's Founding

 

Celebration includes time capsule burial

 

Ramapo, NY - April 28, "Rockland Community College Day," marks the day in 1959 that the Rockland County Board of Supervisors signed legislation to establish the College. Students, employees and elected officials will celebrate on campus with a time capsule burial, ice cream social, proclamations and a marching band.

On April 28, 1959, the Rockland County Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 to establish Rockland Community College. The College is celebrating its 50th Anniversary during the 2009-10 academic year. The College launched its first Annual Campaign in time for the anniversary to raise funds for student support, scholarships and other campus needs. Employee donors will be recognized at the event.

 

Event includes:

  • Time capsule burial
  • Ice cream social
  • Proclamations from County Executive and Legislature
  • East Ramapo Jazz Ensemble
  • Employee donor recognition

 

Dr. Cliff L. Wood, College President, said, "We are delighted to celebrate this important milestone in the life of RCC, the community's college. From its humble beginnings in the County Almshouse and its first graduating class of 39 students, Rockland Community College has grown to serve as the educational and cultural hub of the county."
