SUNY Rockland President Applauds Governor David Paterson's
Higher Education Empowerment and Innovation Act
Suffern, NY - Dr. Cliff L. Wood, President, Rockland Community College, supports New York Governor David Paterson's Higher Education Empowerment and Innovation Act, released last week.
Wood said, "Governor Paterson's Empowerment and Innovation Act is a far-reaching, forward-thinking proposal, which would strengthen SUNY Rockland's value to our students and to regional employers. By giving colleges more autonomy, the plan allows SUNY Rockland to have an even more positive effect on our local economy. It would augment our ability to provide workforce education and would eliminate unneeded bureaucracy. The hundreds of our students who transfer to SUNY four-year colleges will benefit by the increased flexibility provided to the entire SUNY system and particularly by a more reasonable tuition policy. Separating the state’s 64 campuses from other state agencies makes fiscal sense and will benefit both our students and the economic condition of our counties and our state. I support the Governor, the Chancellor and the SUNY Board of Trustees for working cooperatively to create this visionary proposal."
Rockland Community College, a unit of the State University of New York, is located 25 miles northwest of NYC. The majority of its students transfer to four-year colleges, and many find immediate employment upon earning their associate's degree or certificate. The College also offers others, from preschoolers to senior citizens, the opportunity to simply learn something new. Quality education...at a price you can afford.
