Registration Opened for Parents, Educators, and Students (ages 11-18) at the Education Summit Held
at SUNY Rockland Community College
Suffern, NY - A first-time collaboration between local colleges, universities, community organizations, and a Rockland County school district is taking place at SUNY Rockland Community College.
The Education Summit, "Supplementary Education: The Hidden Routes to High Academic Achievement and Success," will allow participants to find out how to achieve academic success on Saturday, October 20.
Students (ages 11-18) will participate in workshops to learn about academic achievement, exposure to surfing and chatting on the Internet, and "Creating your life intentionally using knowledge." Parents/guardians and educators will learn about healthy holistic habits for children; Cyber Tips 101: "What Adults Need to Know about Social Networking Websites (MySpace and Facebook)"; "Early stages of college admissions: will your child be prepared?"; and understanding financial aid.
Keynote speaker is Dr. Adelaide L. Sanford, Vice Chancellor Emeritus, University of the State of New York. Other speakers include representatives from Rutgers University and Berkeley College. There will be a special presentation by Dr. Edmund W. Gordon, Scholar-In-Residence, Rockland Community College, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL).
