Those who completed the certification program earned 56 credits and completed 600 hours of clinical internships which included observing and assessing patients in hospital emergency rooms, Intensive Care Units, Critical Care Units, OB/GYN services, and operating rooms. The students will now be eligible to take the New York State Certifying Exam and also the National Registry Certifying Exam. Once students pass certifying exams, they are eligible to work anywhere in the state/country. Graduates will be in a prime position to seek jobs with professional fire departments, police departments and emergency service organizations, as well as in private industry in the Hudson Valley and in the metropolitan area. Some students will continue their education to earn an associate’s degree in Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

The guest speaker will be Senator Thomas P. Morahan.

The Emergency Medical Services Paramedic certification program is offered through the Hudson Valley Educational Consortium, an innovative collaboration of four community colleges. One of the goals of the Consortium is to bolster the Hudson Valley's domestic preparedness by broadening the availability of a variety of first-responder degree programs offered by the schools, including emergency management, fire protection technology, paramedic services, and cyber security. The participating colleges are Orange, Ulster, Rockland and Sullivan Community Colleges.
