Panel Discussion on the Divisive Racial Situation in Jena, Louisiana
at SUNY Rockland Community College
Suffern, NY - SUNY Rockland Community College plans a lively discussion between students, faculty and staff about "Jena 6," the divisive situation concerning the six African American students who were accused of beating a white student.
The JENA SIX panel discussion will be held Wednesday, October 24, 12:00 noon, in the Student Union, Room 3214, on the main campus in Suffern. Admission is free and open to the public.
"We hope to have a lively debate with much audience participation. 'Jena 6' needs important and vital discussion," said John Marra, Coordinator of Student Activities and Volunteer Services. Marra wants students to express their point of view and ask questions to help them comprehend the situation.
Dr. Suzanne Phillips, Dean of Student Personnel Administration, will moderate the panel which includes:
- James Burnett, JD, LL.M., Associate Professor, Criminal Justice
- Dr. Stanley Ralph, Associate Professor, Performing Arts
- Willie Trotman, NAACP, President, Spring Valley branch
- Alyssa Martin, RCC Student and Secretary, Student Government Association
- Gracious John, RCC Student
