Ramapo, NY - A Rockland Community College math professor donated $10,000 to the RCC Foundation to benefit the Campus Fun & Learn Child Development Center, a non-profit child care center located on campus and open to the general public.
The donor, William McGregor of Nanuet, Associate Professor of Mathematics, said, "Early childhood education is one of the most important things we can do for each other as a community. If we teach our children properly at the start, we raise achievement and lower conflict in our society. The Campus Fun & Learn Child Development Center has some of the best early childhood educators that I’ve ever had the chance to work with." McGregor is an Executive Board member of the Campus Fun & Learn Child Development Center.
The Center is housed in the brand new, state-of-the art Theresa Morahan Simmons Center and is open year-round 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., closing only for major holidays. Open to the general public, it provides care to children from six weeks of age through 12 years. Children are involved in a variety of experiences throughout their day, including language activities, nature, science, cooking, literacy, art, music and more.
In addition to providing full and part-time care and education to infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, the Center offers before and after school and half-day and vacation care to school age children. Busing to the before and after school program is provided by East Ramapo and Ramapo Central School districts.
The Theresa Morahan Simmons Center is named in memory of Theresa Morahan Simmons, a local early childhood educator whose commitment to children, families, and education serves as an inspiration for RCC's teacher education and child care programs.
RCC students who enroll their children may qualify for scholarships and subsidies for child care tuition, making it very affordable.
