Suffern, NY - The community is invited to hear guest speaker Dr. Mario Macaluso present the lecture, “Gian Lorenzo Bernini and His Baroque Creations in Rome,” at Rockland Community College.

Dr. Mario Macaluso, former Director of Foreign Languages Student Teaching at the University of Stony Brook, will discuss Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the greatest Baroque artist of 17th century Rome. The lecture will contain a presentation and description of Bernini's major architectural works and sculptures. The audience will be taken on a virtual tour through a slide show to discover the artist's buildings, churches, squares, fountains, and his magnificent statues.

 

Macaluso was born in Italy in 1939. The author of several articles and books, he received a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Niagara University, a master’s degree in French Language and Literature from Hunter College, a Ph.D. in French Literature from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, and a Specialist Diploma in School Administration and Supervision from Queens College.

 

The lecture is sponsored by the New York Council for the Humanities.
