"Alien Invasion: Invasive Species in the Lower Hudson Valley" Lecture at SUNY Rockland Community College

Suffern, NY - The SUNY Rockland Community College Science Department and the Rockland County Environmental Management Council (EMC) present a lecture on the invasive species that threaten our ecosystems, food systems, economics, and in some instances, human health.

The lecture, "Alien Invasion: Invasive Species in the Lower Hudson Valley," by Katrina R. Shindledecker, Director of Land Preservation of Hudson Highlands Land Trust, is the sixth lecture in the RCC Science Lecture Series.
Giant Hogweed, mile-a-minute, and leafy spurge are but a few of the invasive species that have already been introduced to the Lower Hudson River Valley. This presentation will discuss the invasive species in our region, the species that are approaching our region, and efforts underway to manage the growing problem.

Katrina R. Shindledecker has an M.S. in Environmental Policy from Bard College and an M.S. in Environmental Science from Pace University. Her Environmental Science degree focused on using Global Positioning Systems and Geographic Information Systems for land management. Her Environmental Policy degree focused on Hudson Valley land trusts and their adoption and implementation of the Land Trust Alliance’s Standards and Practices (Rev. 2004) for land acquisition and stewardship. She is an active member/contributor in the Lower Hudson Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (PRISM) and the Mile-a-Minute working group.
