Leadership Conference For Women in Higher Education Held at SUNY Rockland Community College

Suffern, NY - SUNY Rockland Community College will host a leadership conference for women working in higher education on June 6.

The topic for this year’s Leadership Tools for Women conference will be "Changing the Power of Women," which is designed specifically for those who wish to heighten their knowledge of the issues facing women as they move to assume leadership roles in their institutions. This day-long program will help women gain greater understanding about women's participation in politics and how to enhance their influence and leadership in public life.

Since 2008 is an election year, the conference will focus on women taking a lead, getting into the electoral process, media attitudes and the image of women, conventional wisdom and grooming women leaders for leadership positions. A panel of women politicians will also look at practical solutions to getting more women into the electoral process.

RCC Professor, Elaine Padilla, Social Science, will facilitate the panel discussion, "Rights of Passage: Practical Solutions for Getting Women into Politics." The featured speaker is Teena Cahill, Director of Wisdom and Beyond, who will present "Women Taking the Lead: Wisdom for Everyday Leadership and Peak Performance."

This conference is sponsored by the Institute for Community College Development (ICCD), an organization that provides research support for community college CEOs, administrators, faculty and trustees nation-wide.  ICCD was founded as a partnership between the State University of New York and Cornell University to address the critical issue of leadership succession.
