Area Landscapers Donate Services to Beautify Rockland Community College Campus
Suffern, NY - Area landscapers donated their services to beautify the Rockland Community College Academic Quad in celebration of the College's 50th Anniversary.
Paul Trader, Director of Cornell Cooperative Extension, organized a group of local landscapers to plant trees, shrubs and garden beds on September 19. "Every year RCC hosts Cornell Cooperative Extension’s daylong seminar for landscapers in the Technology Center. To reciprocate, several horticulture educators, led by Rose Baglia and Jennifer Stengle, decided to create sustainable landscapes that could be used as living, teaching laboratories on campus. The plants used in the garden beds are native to our area and require little water, maintenance, and pest control. Hopefully, additional gardens will be added in the coming years with the help of Environmental Science students at RCC."
Former RCC student Steve Botto ‘84, owner of Steve Botto Landscaping, Inc. and President of the Professional Landscape Association of Rockland County, organized the work crews that day including his own.
Bob Torgersen, of Robert G. Torgersen, ASLA, Landscape Architecture & Environmental Sciences, provided the design, which complimented the existing landscape installed around the Technology Center.
The following members of the Professional Landscape Association of Rockland County also donated their services:
- Scott Curti, owner of Curti's Landscaping, plus staff members John Beaudry and Bill Bodensiek and the landscape crew
- Floyd Lang, owner of Custom Lawns & Landscaping, Inc.
- Russell Foote, owner of Foote Brothers Ltd. and his crew
- Jim Christensen, owner of Terra Firma Landscape, Inc. and his crew
