High School Artists Compete to Attend Master Class by Acclaimed Artist
Serious 11th and 12th Grade Artists Invited to Submit Work
to Art Competition at SUNY Rockland — Deadline: October 5
Winners invited to live drawing demonstration and lunch with contemporary classicist, Robert Liberace
Suffern, NY - Serious 11th and 12th grade artists attending a Rockland County high school are invited to submit their work by October 5 to compete for the Future Artists Awards.
Winners of the Future Artists Award will meet and observe world-renowned artist Robert Liberace, a contemporary classicist equally accomplished in drawing, painting, and sculpture, best known for his classic and distinctive style of figure drawing. The Artist’s Magazine selected Liberace as one of the top 20 realist artists under the age of 40. He was recently commissioned to sculpt a life-sized statue of Mother Teresa for the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington D.C.
Robert Liberace will hold a Master Class for the winning artists, community members and College employees on November 10, 11:00 a.m. - 12:45 p.m., where various techniques and skills will be demonstrated. Criteria and Selection Process:
Students must submit one piece of art/artwork and are required to submit a one-page essay discussing their work and their desire to be chosen as an attendee. The high school principal must support the student’s submission by written letter and indicate that the student has permission to attend the event on November 10. Student or school district must provide transportation. A maximum of two applications, one per student, per high school may be submitted. Application deadline: Monday, October 5, 2009. Work and essays will be judged by the SUNY Rockland Community College art faculty.
