Grand Opening of Theresa Morahan Simmons Center for Children and Families

Grand Opening of Theresa Morahan Simmons Center for Children and Families at SUNY Rockland

Suffern, NY - The Campus Fun & Learn Child Development Center celebrated the grand opening of its new facility, the Theresa Morahan Simmons Center for Children and Families, on June 14. The Center is open to the general public as well as to the children of Rockland Community College students, faculty and staff.

Featured speakers included alumna Kelly Gaetz of Upper Nyack, a single mother who sent her children to the center while a Nursing student.

The new state-of-the art facility is named in memory of Theresa Morahan Simmons, a local early childhood educator and daughter of Senator Thomas P. Morahan.

The registration process has already begun for Fall ’09. Beginning Sept. 1, the Center will provide care to children from 6 weeks of age through age 12.  In addition to providing full and part-time care and education to infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, the Center will also offer after school and vacation care to school age children.

The Center will be open year round from the hours of 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., closing only for major holidays. Children will be involved in a variety of experiences throughout their day, including language activities, math, art, music, and more.

RCC students who enroll their children may qualify for scholarships and subsidies for child care tuition, making it very affordable.

In addition to providing care and education to young children, the Center will provide an opportunity for education students, psychology students and others to gain experience and understanding in working with young children.
