Suffern, NY - The Campus Fun & Learn Child Development Center is celebrating the grand opening of its new facility, the Theresa Morahan Simmons Center for Children and Families. The Center is open to the general public as well as to the children of students, faculty and staff.

Sunday, June 14, 2 p.m.

Grand Opening: Theresa Morahan Simmons Center for Children and Families

Rockland Community College, Suffern campus.

The celebration of the new facility will include singing by children currently enrolled in the College’s Campus Fun & Learn Child Development Center, Inc. They will also be handing out lemonade and cookies. Featured speakers will include alumna Kelly Gaetz of Upper Nyack, who sent her children to the center while a student; Ellen Spergel, President, Board of Directors, Campus Fun and Learn Child Development Center, Inc., and Dr. Cliff L. Wood, President of Rockland Community College.  Senator Thomas P. Morahan, father of Theresa Morahan Simmons, will be in attendance.

The new state-of-the art facility is named in memory of Theresa Morahan Simmons, a local early childhood educator whose commitment to children, families, and education serves as an inspiration for RCC's teacher education and child care programs.

The registration process has already begun for Fall ’09. Beginning Sept. 1, the Center will provide care to children from 6 weeks of age through age 12.  In addition to providing full and part-time care and education to infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, the Center will also offer after school and vacation care to school age children.

The Center will be open year round from the hours of 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., closing only for major holidays. Children will be involved in a variety of experiences throughout their day, including language activities, math, art, music, and more.

RCC students who enroll their children may qualify for scholarships and subsidies for child care tuition, making it very affordable.

In addition to providing care and education to young children, the Center will provide an opportunity for education students, psychology students and others to gain experience and understanding in working with young children.
