Events Planned For Hispanic Heritage Month 2007 At SUNY Rockland Community College
Suffern, NY - The 20th annual SUNY Rockland Community College Hispanic Heritage Month is kicking off its events with a lecture and reception on Wednesday, October 3, on the main campus in Suffern. Hispanic Heritage Month officially began in the U.S. on September 15, the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries—Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico declared its independence on September 16, and Chile on September 18.
Some of the featured events include the Hispanic Heritage Student Achievement Awards, a theater production, a lecture, "Women Surrealists in Mexico," by Dr. Suzanne Aberth of the New York Council for the Humanities, and a panel discussion, "A Multicultural Perspective on Careers in 2007." All events are free and open to the public.
