Student Entrepreneurial Business Plan Competition
at SUNY Rockland Community College
Suffern, NY - Area high school and college students will present their entrepreneurial ideas in a one-of-a-kind business plan competition at SUNY Rockland Community College.
The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, Rockland County Chapter, and the Rockland Community College Business Department will co-host the competition for area high school and college students, in two separate categories, on Friday, December 5, on the main campus in Suffern.
The competition is designed to give students the opportunity to experience planning an entrepreneurship in both written and oral presentation formats. The schools established teams that developed a business plan and PowerPoint presentation for a business that it believed would be successful in Rockland County.
Each winning team will get the grand prize, $1,000, funded by the New York Society of Certified Public Accountants, Rockland Chapter.
Judges will base their decisions upon a prescribed set of criteria as outlined in the New York State Small Business Development Center, "A Practical Guide to Preparing Your Business Plan." Judges are members of the college and the business community. The event will end with a special guest speaker, presentation of awards, and lunch.
Guest speaker Howard Hellman of Suffern is Chairman and Founder of All Bright Electric in West Nyack. Hellman graduated RCC in 1972, earned his B.S. from SUNY Oneonta, and currently serves as President of RCC's Alumni Association. Hellman was selected 2007 "Person of the Year" by the Rockland Community College Foundation for his service to the Foundation, College and community.
The student speaker is Honors student Chad Agrawal of West Nyack. He is the Student Representative to the Rockland Community College's Board of Trustees for the 2008-2009 academic year; President of the Alpha Beta Gamma International Business Honors Society; and Vice President of the Speech and Debate Team.
