The instructor of EMT 101 and 102 will be holding a mock Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) exercise as the final culmination of everything the students have learned over the semester. It includes scene size up and safety precautions, assessment of medical and trauma patients (dress and make-up will simulate injuries), and treatment of injury or illness, which will include airway management, oxygen administration and CPR. There will be transportation considerations, ambulance operations and Weapons of Mass Destruction/ terrorism awareness.

In the past, students have reenacted a school shooting, injuries/illnesses at a sporting event, and a multiple car accident. This year’s exercise is still to be determined. Victims donate their time and include past EMT students, nursing students and volunteers from the community.
