Emergency Medical Services Program Moves From Spring Valley to the Suffern Campus of
SUNY Rockland Community College

Suffern, NY - Renovations to the SUNY Rockland Community College Academic I building have brought the Emergency Medical Services Program to the main campus in Suffern from Spring Valley.

Those interested in a career in Emergency Medical Services can earn an Emergency Medical Services Paramedic Certificate or an associate's degree. Certificate holders will earn 56 credits and complete clinical internships which include observing and assessing patients in hospital emergency rooms, Intensive Care Units, Critical Care Units, OB/GYN services, and operating rooms. Students can then choose to continue their education to earn an associate's degree in Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

Successful completion of program requirements qualifies students to prepare for the New York State and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic Certification Examination. Once students pass certifying exams, they are eligible to work anywhere in the state/country. Graduates will be in a prime position to seek jobs with professional fire departments, police departments and emergency service organizations, as well as in private industry in the Hudson Valley and in the metropolitan area.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities for EMS professionals will grow faster than average for all occupations through the year 2010. Continued populations growth and urbanization as well as aging baby boomers will increase the demand for EMT's and Paramedics.

Financial aid scholarships are available for Rockland County students.
