Approximately 100 SUNY Rockland Community College Students Raised Relay for Life Funds Bringing the
Total Collected to Approximately $20,000

Suffern, NY - Due to a snowstorm in February, SUNY Rockland Community College students were unable to attend the Relay for Life held at St. Thomas Aquinas so they held their own event on April 17 in the Fieldhouse.

Relay for Life is an event where people celebrate survivors as well as those who we have lost in a fight against cancer.

Organizers from the American Cancer Society hoped to raise at least $15,000 at the fourth annual Relay for Life fundraiser. Approximately 100 students at SUNY Rockland Community College, together with students from Dominican College and St. Thomas Aquinas College, were able to beat that goal and raise approximately $20,000--the most they’ve raised in four years.

Diana Carey, Athletic Trainer and Instructor, Physical Education, is the advisor and co-chair of the project.

Since its inception in 1985, Relay for Life has grown to more than 3,000 annual events that raise nearly a quarter billion dollars for research into cancer prevention and treatment as well as outpatient services. Donations can be made online at the ACS Web site or checks payable to the American Cancer Society can be given to Ms. Carey in Athletics.

Rockland Community College, a unit of the State University of New York, is located 25 miles northwest of NYC. The majority of its students transfer to four-year colleges, and many find immediate employment upon earning their associate's degree or certificate. The College also offers others, from preschoolers to senior citizens, the opportunity to simply learn something new. Quality education...at a price you can afford.
