Adjunct Faculty Member Will Speak on "How To Get Fat" At SUNY Rockland Community College

Suffern, NY - A lecture shedding light on how nutrients are consumed by the body will be presented as a means to control weight at SUNY Rockland Community College.

"How to Get Fat: It's all about the fuel (and how the body uses it)," presented by Gina Liberti, MS, DTR, MS ED, is the second lecture in the Science Lecture Series hosted by the Science Department at the College.

With skyrocketing obesity rates in America, it seems that getting fat is much easier than remaining thin. While overeating is part of the equation, understanding how the body uses fuel, specifically mechanisms of nutrient utilization and how they may be enhanced under normal physiological conditions, may provide insights into obesity. Determining how different nutrients are consumed by the body may shed light on both controlling weight and preventing obesity.

Gina Liberti, MS, DTR, MS ED, adjunct faculty, Science, is a former student of RCC, having graduated with an Associate in Applied Science degree in Dietetic Technology and Nutrition Care. She went on to receive a Masters in Human Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport. Upon graduation, Ms. Liberti was asked to teach Human Nutrition at RCC, where she focuses on the biochemistry of how the body uses food and food components.
