Academy for Gifted and Talented Kids is Accepting Applications for Fall ’08

SUNY Rockland Community College Academy for Gifted and Talented

Kids is Accepting Applications for the Fall ’08 Semester

 

Ongoing admission and registration

 

Suffern, NY - The SUNY Rockland Community College program designed to challenge the educational needs of academically gifted children, grades 3 - 6, is reviewing applications for this fall.

 

The program runs Saturdays, October 4 – November 8, 9 a.m. until noon, depending upon the number of classes a child takes, on the main campus at 145 College Road, Suffern, NY. Cost: $139 per course. A child can take up to three courses.

 

The Academy for Gifted and Talented Kids incorporates a curriculum and teaching strategy that stretches the minds of children who have special abilities. Classes are taught by experienced, state-certified teachers and college-level faculty.

 

Courses include topics such as Get Art Smart; Medieval Times; Passport to the Future; Science Fun and Creating Rube Goldberg Contraptions.

 

The Academy for Gifted and Talented Children, which operates through the Center for Personal & Professional Development, admitted around 35 children in the Spring ’08 semester.

 

To be eligible for the academy, children must either already be in a gifted program at their school or have eligible standardized test scores. IQ tests will also be accepted for review. Eligible children can be a resident of any county.
