"Kiss Me, Kate" at SUNY Rockland Community College

Based on Shakespeare's, "The Taming of the Shrew," "Kiss Me, Kate" is a wild and raucous romp through two worlds as we follow the passionate though egotistical Fred Graham --actor, director and former husband of the Diva-Star Lilli Vanessi. They star opposite one another in the play, "Taming of the Shrew," within the play, "Kiss Me, Kate."

A personal triumph for Cole Porter, "Kiss Me, Kate" played for 1,077 performances on Broadway and for 501 performances in London. The original cast album issued in 1948 by Columbia Records had the distinction of being the very first Broadway cast recording to be issued on LP.

"Kiss Me, Kate" was revived in 1999 on Broadway, where it played for 881 performances and at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London, where it played for about 300 performances.

RCC is happy to revive this gem of musical theater as they celebrate its year of Shakespeare in honor of the Rockland Shakespeare Company's 10th anniversary.
