Financial Aid 101: A General Overview of the Student Financial Aid Programs and the Application Process

Intended Audience: Prospective college students and their families

Abstract: The presentation provides a general overview of the federal, state and institutional aid programs available to college students and describes the application processes for each. The speaker will discuss how governmental bodies determine financial aid eligibility; how aid is awarded and packaged by colleges; and how students and parents can meet the cost of attendance at the school they want to attend. A question and answer period follows the presentation..

About the Speaker: Debra Bouabidi has been the RCC Director of Financial Aid since 2007. Awarded the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service (2012), she has worked to improve service, reduce student stress, and provide for an increasing population of students with decreased financial resources. She earned a BA in Psychology from Central College in Pella, IA; and an MAE in College Student Personnel Services from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, IA.
