RAMAPO, NY – The Rockland Community College Athletic Department is pleased to announce the 2014 class of Sports Hall of Fame Inductees. Festivities will commence on January 18, 2014 at 7 pm at the Italian-American Social Club in West Haverstraw, NY.

Admission of $50 includes hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, salad, pasta, prime rib, coffee, dessert and dancing.  For reservations or more information please call the RCC Athletics at 845-574-4452 or 4512. Checks can made payable to the RCC Association.

Four former star athletes, along with two honorary inductees, will make up the seventh annual class and will join the 34 members and one team already enshrined.  They are:

Carl Svensson ’62, Wrestling

Carl Svensson was fearless on the wrestling mat during his two-year career at RCC. Svensson, along with Neil Robinson and Cliff Ward, virtually put the College’s athletic program on the national map when they all garnered JUCO All-American honors in 1961.

Peter Scheibner ’72, Tennis
After a rebuilding year in 1971, Coach Joe Famellette assembled a dynamic 1972 Men’s Tennis team which was captained by Peter Scheibner.  Scheibner led the Hawks to the Mid Hudson Conference Championship and earned a spot on the 1972 All-Mid Hudson Conference Team. The team fell one point shy of a NJCAA National Tournament berth.

Kevin Reilly ’95, Golf
Reilly was a 1995 NJCAA All-American and two-time All-Mid Hudson Conference selection. Under Coach Howard Pierson, Reilly helped lead the 1995 team to a Region XV Championship and a spot in the NJCAA National Tournament at the Bryan Park Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Kenny Amparo ’04, Basketball
As a sophomore, Amparo earned All-Mid Hudson Conference First Team accolades, and was cited as All-Region XV Honorable Mention.  He helped the Hawks to their second post-season tournament in four years.  After a stellar career at SUNY Brockport, Amparo landed a job teaching at Clarkstown North and now serves as the varsity boys basketball coach.

Isidro “Papo” Cancel ‘71 and Clarke Osborn ’92, Dr. Cliff L. Wood Honorary Members

“Papo” Cancel currently serves as a Town of Haverstraw Councilman and was previously a member and Chair of the RCC Board of Trustees.  He, along with Clarke Osborn, will be recognized as the recipients of the Cliff L. Wood Service Award. Osborn, the Suffern Chief of Police, will officially receive the award after being noted as the 2012 honoree.
