RCC Undertakes 24-hour Online Fundraising Campaign to Build Outdoor Performance Space

Ramapo – The unusable decaying amphitheater in the quad behind the Cultural Arts Center at Rockland Community College needs to be demolished – to be replaced with a multi-purpose Outdoor Performance Space and Peace Garden - only if a 24-hour online fundraising campaign on May 11 is successful.

The first of this type of crowdfunding campaign to be undertaken at a SUNY institution, RCC’s goal of $400,000 must be raised in a 24-hour time period. Three donors have each committed a $100,000 matching donation if $100,000 is raised in that period ($100k raised + donor 1 $100k + donor 2 $100k + donor 3 $100k = 400k). The whole RCC campus of students, faculty and administrators and alumni are excitedly preparing to participate in this exciting project and engaging the power of their social media to generate buzz.

Thanks to the generosity of the matching donors, each donation made during the 24-hour campaign is effectively quadrupled. Many people in Rockland County have fond memories of attending outdoor concerts and performances at the campus and would welcome a new performance venue at RCC. Each summer, the Rockland Shakespeare Company provides free theater for the audience as well as amazing opportunities and experience for young artists. Every donation will make a huge difference.

The “Operations Room,” in the Student Union (3214) will be hopping as pizza, snacks, prizes and entertainment keep everyone pumped-up. Donations can be made online for just 24 hours, beginning at noon on May 11, with operations running till 9 pm on the first day and picking up again in the morning on Thursday (May 12) from 9 am to noon.

“The all-or-nothing nature of this fundraising platform lends it a sense of excitement and urgency, and we are confident that our students and alumni will rally to spread the exciting news about this unique campaign,” said Dr. Cliff L. Wood, President of Rockland Community College. Donations website live on May 11 at noon: www.charidy.com/sunyrcc.

The three generous matching donors are the 1) Kurz Family Foundation, 2) the State University of New York, which matches funds for capital projects, and 3) a group of donors including: RCC’s Campus Players (Performing Arts), John Piccininni (member of the RCC Foundation), Schultz Ford, and an anonymous donor.
