DATE: October 16, 2018

RAMAPO, N.Y. – Enjoy a fun-filled night of music, poetry, improvisation, dance, theatrical stage combat and other compelling performances by Rockland Community College students at the 21st annual Harvest Celebration of the Arts on Saturday, October 20, 8 p.m. at the College's Cultural Arts Theater. Proceeds benefit the Melissa Dimataris scholarship fund, named in memory of a popular RCC Performing Arts alumna who died of leukemia in October 2013.

“October 21 is the five-year anniversary of the loss of our beloved student and friend, Melissa Dimitaris,” said Christopher Plummer, Director of the Cultural Arts Theater. “Since her passing, we have incorporated an annual fundraiser into our Harvest Celebration of the Arts event in order to raise funds for a scholarship in her name. We invite the public to come see an exciting and wonderful variety of talented students as they perform and celebrate the arts, as well as the life of a beautiful and inspiring young artist who the world lost too soon.”

Close to $20,000 was raised in 2014, the first year the annual celebration was combined with dedicated efforts to raise funds for the Melissa Dimataris Memorial Performance Scholarship. Each year since, many generous donors have contributed to the scholarship fund, which directly benefits RCC students.

Minimum donation is $10 at the door. Those who cannot attend but would like to contribute to the scholarship fund should contact RCC Performing Arts at 845-574-4471. The event is presented by RCC Performing Arts and The Campus Players.
