RCC Student Receives National Award and Scholarship
Emma Colchamiro honored by Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation

RAMAPO – A Rockland Community College student who will graduate this May is being honored as part of a select nationwide group. Emma Colchamiro is one of just 150 community college students in the country to receive an award and scholarship from the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation.

Colchamiro was named a 2017 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Bronze Scholar, receiving a special medallion and a $1,000 scholarship. A graduate of Tenafly High School in New Jersey, Colchamiro currently lives in Suffern.

High-achieving students are nominated for the award by campus administrators. An independent panel of judges considers academic achievement, leadership, and engagement in college and community service in the selection process. The program is administered by Phi Theta Kappa, the premier honor society recognizing the academic achievement of community college students.

Colchamiro, who has a 4.0 GPA, was also named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-New York Academic First Team. She currently serves as the student representative to the RCC Board of Trustees and president of the Speech and Debate Team.

She anticipates graduating RCC in May with an AA in Liberal Arts and Science: Humanities & Social Science, and is planning to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Colchamiro intends to become a lawyer and aims to work on behalf of environmental organizations.
