RCC Sports Hall of Fame To Enshrine Four New Members

Induction set for January 17, 2015 at Platzl Brauhaus in Pomona

RAMAPO, NY – A pair of women’s tennis aces, a two-sport star and a golf standout highlight this year’s class of inductees into the Rockland Community College Sports Hall of Fame, announced by the RCC Athletic Department. The eighth annual induction gala takes place Saturday, January 17, 2015, at 7 pm at the Platzl Brauhaus in Pomona, NY.

The four alumni athletes are being honored along with the recipient of the Dr. Cliff L. Wood Service Award, joining the 38 members and one team already enshrined.

Admission of $60 includes a cocktail hour, hors d’oeuvres, salad, pasta, prime rib, coffee, dessert and dancing. For reservations or more information please call the Athletic Department at 845-574-4452 or 4512. Checks can be made payable to the RCC Association. RSVP by January 8, 2015, to ensure proper seating.

This year’s honorees include:

Gina Lustman-Schreiner and Teresa (Geisenheimer) Kay, both Class of 1983, Tennis

It is only fitting that this highly accomplished duo be inducted into the Hall of Fame together. As a tandem in RCC’s Women’s Tennis program, they won the Region XV second doubles title to help guide the team to the Region XV championship in the fall of 1981. Lustman-Schreiner also won conference and Region XV titles in first singles that year. In 1982, they combined to capture the Region XV first flight doubles championship. Through their two years of doubles competition for RCC, the dynamic duo lost only one match.

Joseph Castaldo, Class of 1989, Basketball and Baseball
Castaldo was a star two-sport athlete at RCC. He surpassed 1,000 career points and earned All-Conference and All-Region XV honors on the basketball court at RCC. Going on to Dominican College in Orangeburg, NY, he scored 1,088 points and was an All-NAIA Area 8 selection while on the baseball team. Castaldo was then drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals organization and played for the Hamilton Redbirds and the Savannah Cardinals from 1991 to 1993.

Bobby Everett, Class of 1992, Golf

Currently the Head Golf Professional at Rockland Country Club in Sparkill, NY, Everett won all but one tournament in 1992 and was named the Mid Hudson Conference MVP. While at Fairleigh Dickinson University, he placed second as an individual qualifier at the 1993 Northeast Conference Golf Championship.

Eric Dranoff, Esq., Dr. Cliff L. Wood Service Award Winner

Dranoff, an RCC Foundation Board member, is a partner in the law firm Saretsky, Katz, Dranoff and Glass, LLP. He serves on numerous committees and supports several nonprofit agencies in Rockland County.
