Ramapo- All are welcome to attend and honor Rockland Community College student veterans who have achieved academic distinction at their celebration dinner and induction into SALUTE, the national honor society for United States veterans. RCC is a veteran friendly campus with many dedicated services for our student veterans.

Nine RCC student veterans have achieved academic distinction and will be inducted into the SALUTE Honor Society this year. The keynote speaker is decorated retired SGTMAJ M.T. Mack. Mack’s awards include: Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal in lieu of 2nd Award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal in lieu of fifth award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal in lieu of second award, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal in lieu of eighth award, National Defense Medal in lieu of second award, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon in lieu of third award, Iraqi Campaign, Afghanistan Campaign, NATO ISAF Afghanistan, and the Drill Instructor ribbon.

Alvarado, Christian Jurgen, USMC; (Sgt, E-5), MOS-6492-Aviation Precision Measurement Equipment Repair Technician.  Enlisted in July 2010; Based in Stewart Airport. No deployments.  Graduated from RCC in May 2012 and from SUNY/Maritime September 2016.

Alvarez, Edgar A,USMC; (LCPL, E-3); MOS-0311-Infantry.  Based in MCB-Kaneohe Bay, HI.  Served from 2010 to 2015. Deployed to Bahrain in 2011 and with 7th Fleet in 2014. Enrolled in RCC in the A/S Engineering program with plans to study computer engineering.

Beckmann, Joseph Michael, USAF; (SSgt, E-5), AFSC2A571, (Aerospace maintenance/craftsman).  Based in Yokota AFB, Japan; deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan for OEF in 2009-2010, deployed to Kyrgyzstan in 2011. Currently enrolled in the MTS/Honors program with plans to transfer to Columbia University.

Bogart, Jordan Alexander, USMC; (Corporal, E-4); MOS 0352-Tow Gunner.  Based in Camp Le Jeune, NC.  Served from 2002-2006 and then US Army/National Guard, (SGT, E-5), from 2006-2009.  Deployed to Afghanistan for OEF in 2004 and Iraq for OIF in 2005.  Graduated from RCC in May 2012 with AS/Fire Science. Returned to RCC Fall 2015 for the Culinary Arts Certificate program. Currently employed as a full time firefighter for the Village of Larchmont, NY.

Francois, Felix, USA; (Specialist, E-4), MOS-21W-Carpentry/Masonry.  Served from 2002-2006; Deployed to Iraq for OIF1 in 2001 and again for OIF 3 in 2013.  Based in Germany. Currently enrolled in RCC in both the Criminal Justice & Early Childhood Education program with plans to be a Math teacher or Policeman.

Lemus, Kevin N; USMC; (Cpl, E-4); MOS-6672, (Aviation supply) Served from 2011-2015.  Deployed to Afghanistan in 2012-2013 for OEF. Currently drilling with Marine Corps Reserve. Enrolled in RCC in the AS/Business Administration program.

Ray, James Henry, USA; (Specialist, E-4) inducted posthumously

Thacker, Christopher, USMC; (SSgt, E-6); MOS-0629-Radio Chief.  Served from 2002-2015.  Based in Camp LeJeune, NC.  Deployed to Afghanistan in 2011 for OEF, Iraq in 2007 for OIF, Embassy Duty in Peru and Bahamas in 2007-2008.  Currently enrolled in the Nursing program with plans to continue to a BS-Nursing degree.

Young, Kamie Rachelle, USA; (specialist, E-4); MOS 68W-Combat Medic.  Based in West Point, NY.  No deployments, served from 2011-2014, currently drilling with Army Reserve. Enrolled in RCC in the AS/Math & Science program with plans to continue towards a Physician’s Assistant program.
