Oct 6 – Saving Lives with Donor Enrollment Day at RCC
open to the public - all are welcome
Ramapo: Rockland Community College hosts 2nd Annual “Donor Enrollment Day” event in the Student Union. Over 110 teams throughout the state are engaged in this 24-hour challenge to sign-up the most donors. This event is led at RCC by Roxanne Watson, the RCC alumna, and well-known activist, a heart transplant recipient who has been recognized nationally as an effective spokesperson in sharing her story and a tireless advocate in educating and signing-up new donors. Roxanne has made it her life’s work and has personally added more than 8,500 people to the donor rolls to help save lives and to honor the memory of Michael Bovill, whose heart has given her this second chance since 2010.
The festive event includes food and music along with information tables and representatives from several health organizations including WomenHeart. Local and state dignitaries will be on hand, the Worldwide Community First Responders will provide free blood pressure screening, and the Board of Elections will offer voter registrations.
We hope to break all records for donor enrollments this year! RCC is one of the smaller schools in the SUNY system, but last year only Stony Brook (with a student population 3x ours) signed-up more. Learn more about LiveOnNY and the challenge: http://www.liveonny.org
