Rockland Community College Celebrates Jewish Heritage Month

Ranging from photography and poetry to music and culinary arts, all events at this year’s celebration of Jewish heritage at Rockland Community College are open to the public and free of charge. Kosher refreshments served.

Tuesday, February 28 • 12:15-1:15 pm, Cultural Arts Atrium (outside Cafeteria)
Opening Celebration featuring HEBRO, a proud Jewish African American, presenting his unique musical message: conscious hip-hop with a soulful blend of R&B and reggae. Hebro’s music carries a message of unity, truth, celebration and progress. Links:

Hamantashen Wars! In the Jewish version of Cupcake Wars, contestants compete for the title of Hamantash Hero, with local celebrity judges casting their votes. Tastings of this unique triangular Purim pastry for all.

“The Problem with Being Jew-ISH in the 21st Century” talk by Dr. Zohar Raviv, internationally acclaimed Jewish thinker and educator. Christians are Christian. Muslims are Muslim. Why are Jews Jew-ISH? As the International Vice President of Education for Birthright Israel, Dr. Raviv has educated more than half a million young adults.

Poetry Reading by Yehoshua November, the award-winning author whose latest collection, Two Worlds Exist, was a finalist for the 2016 National Jewish Book Award in Poetry. His previous poetry collection, God’s Optimism, won the MSR Poetry Award and was a finalist for the LA Times Book Prize. He teaches writing at Touro College and Rutgers University.
