Events embrace diversity at the College

RAMAPO, N.Y. – Rockland Community College is expanding on International Education Week with various events planned for the entire month of November. International Education Week (IEW), November 18-22, 2019, is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. “This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of our efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences,” explained Corry Spring, Coordinator of International Students.  “Rockland Community College has been celebrating IEW since 2015, and each year it gets better. It brings together faculty, staff and students in all different ways - food, the arts, and education. The College community and the community at-large is invited to join us for these wonderful events.”


Tuesday, November 12

Exotic Fruit Tasting
12:30 – 1:30 pm, Student Union, Room 3101

Assistant Professor of Hospitality, Wendy Gordon, will be presenting a variety of fruits from all over the world and not typically found in the US. Participants will have an opportunity to taste the fruits while learning more about them.

Wednesday, November 13

Free Immigration Event with NPZ Law Group
1:00 – 3:00 pm, Technology Center, Ellipse

International Student Services has invited NPZ Law Group to Campus to talk about a variety of hot topics that are beneficial to the RCC Community including: knowing one’s rights, U.S. immigration law, social media, DACA update and road to the green card.

COIL Student Panel
12:30 – 1:30 pm, Technology Center, Room 8375

COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) faculty, along with current and past COIL student participants, will give a presentation about their experiences with their classes and projects.

Wednesday, November 20

International Student Thanksgiving* (by invitation only)
This annual tradition has been celebrated at RCC for decades.  International Student Services, in collaboration with Professor Wendy Gordon and Lessings Food Services, prepares a fantastic feast to celebrate the tradition of Thanksgiving with our international student population.  This event is by invitation only.

Tuesday, November 26

International Performance Showcase
12:30 – 1:30 pm, Cultural Arts Center, Blackbox Theater

The Performing Arts department will highlight their many global talents in celebration of International Education Month.

December 4

International Faculty/Staff Panel
12:30-1:30 pm, Location to be determined

RCC faculty and staff will discuss their international experiences. Panelists will speak about moving to the US and/or their experiences living abroad, including the ups and downs, which may feel familiar to that of many RCC students.
