Concert and Lecture: Music of the Holocaust

Dr. Tamara Reps Freeman, concert violist and ethnomusicologist, will perform and discuss Holocaust-era music, playing her 1935 Joseph Bausch viola that was rescued from the Holocaust. Dr. Freeman brings the personal stories of the composers interned in the ghettos and concentration camps to life as she plays their stirring melodies and teaches the audience to sing the most emblematic archival songs. Holocaust Survivor Bernhard Storch Testimony

Hear the testimony of Bernhard Storch, age 95, who was born in South Poland in 1922. During WWII he was taken by the Soviet secret police, sent to Siberia, and worked more than a year in a forced labor camp. Afterwards, he found a way to join the Polish Army and helped to liberate four extermination camps, three in Poland and one in Germany. In 1947, Storch and his wife, Ruth, together immigrated to the US.
