Clinical Medical Assistant Program Offered at RCC

Continuing Education program trains students to assist physicians; begins March 28, 2017

Ramapo, NY—Students can prepare for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in health care by enrolling in the Clinical Medical Assistant program at Rockland Community College. The program, offered by Continuing Education, consists of 140 classroom hours with a clinical externship of 160 hours. Students who successfully complete the program are eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) examination.

 

The schedule of classes is as follows:

March 28 to July 11: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 pm to 9:30 pm

Eight Saturdays, 9 am to 4:30 pm: April 1, April 22, April 29, May 13, June 3, June 10, June 24, July 8

***No classes on May April 11, April 13, May 16, May 18, May 23, May 25 or July 4

Tuition: $2,995, including textbooks

 

The program trains students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Instruction includes: preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy, the cardiac life cycle, and other topics.

Students review important themes including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology including proper lead placements, professional workplace behavior, ethics, and the legal aspects of health care.

The program encompasses 140 hours of classroom lecture, hands-on labs, and a clinical externship opportunity at a local health-care provider. To be eligible for the clinical rotation, students must successfully complete the 140-hour program, submit to a thorough background check and drug screening, and meet other requirements.
