College signs agreement with University at Buffalo for six-year program

RAMAPO – Rockland Community College students can now obtain a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree in just six years from one of the nation’s top-ranked pharmacy schools. The College recently signed an affiliation agreement with the University at Buffalo to establish the accelerated program.

Under the agreement, at least two qualified RCC graduates each year will be admitted into the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University at Buffalo, which like RCC is part of the State University of New York (SUNY). Admitted students will spend four years at UB to complete the PharmD program.

“This partnership is an incredible opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career as a pharmacist,” said Dr. Kathleen Hopkins, RCC Division Chair of STEM and Health Professions. “It saves the student and family a great deal of money.”

In order to qualify for this 2+4 program, students must complete a series of prerequisite courses and maintain a 3.5 GPA. Students will be asked to express their intent to enroll in the program during their first year at RCC in order to plan a course sequence that meets all requirements for admission to UB. “Those students will be supported throughout their journey at RCC by a designated academic advisor who works specifically with pre-PharmD students,” Dr. Hopkins added.

According to US News and World Report, the University at Buffalo has the top-ranked pharmacy school in New York and one of the top 25 schools in the nation. For more on the UB program, visit pharmacy.buffalo.edu.
