Assistant Director eLearning & Instructional Technology


The Assistant Director is primarily responsible for working with faculty to develop multimedia components for web-enhanced, hybrid and online courses; assist faculty in assessing the instructional effectiveness of course materials and other components for online learning; develop materials and conduct training for faculty, staff and students; supervise the eLearning support service staff in helping faculty and students succeed in online teaching and learning at RCC.

  • Work with faculty in the design & development of web-enhanced, hybrid and online courses that incorporate multi-media teaching and learning technologies and meet institutional curriculum standards.
  • Supervise the eLearning support staff and the day-to-day operations of the eLearning dept. and help desk services
  • Coordinate technical and support services implementation with Open SUNY with the planning and implementation of the Learning Management System (LMS) and other services in partnership with Open SUNY
  • Provide resource information on the latest in technologies, and practices to achieve course, program and institutional effectiveness and implement continuous update of all online and hybrid courses to ensure that standards on course effectiveness and usability across curriculum are observed
  • Ensure that the eLearning website is update regularly to provide a one-stop-shop informational site for the current and potential students, faculty and administrators at RCC
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Technology, Media or related field from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization

Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience:

  • Designing hybrid and online courses with faculty in an educational setting
  • Training faculty using technologies for web-enhanced, hybrid and other online courses
  • Learning Management System (LMS) preferably Blackboard for hybrid and online courses

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in supervising staff, web design and portal editing as well as applying Quality Matters and other benchmarks for higher education online courses.
