Projects

The Community Involvement Committee serves Rockland County through mutually beneficial working relationships with the County's agencies and not-for-profit organizations. We sponsor a variety of outreach programs and lead College-wide participation in community events. Here are some of our projects:

American Heart Association's Annual Heart Walk

SUNY Rockland Community College hosts this annual fund-raising event for the American Heart Association. Every spring, Community Involvement Committee members join faculty, staff, administrators and students on this three-mile walk that begins at the College's Fieldhouse.

United Way Fund Raiser

The Community Involvement Committee partners with the Office of Human Resources to conduct an annual campus-wide fund-raiser in support of the United Way. If you like to volunteer for the United Way Campaign, Please e-mail the coordinators Bob Axelrod (raxelrod@sunyrockland.edu), Jeanne Howell (jhowell@sunyrockland.edu), and/or Saeed Safaie (ssafaie@sunyrocklad.edu).

United Way Day of Caring

Every October, SUNY Rockland Community College joins other community organizations for a Day of Caring. Breakfast is followed by participation in a community activity such as cleaning up Boy Scout Camp Bullowa, picking apples with preschoolers at Dr. Davies' Farm, and escorting students on a tour of the Children's Museum in Paramus, N.J.

Food Drive

In partnership with SUNY Rockland's Student Volunteer Service Program, the Community Involvement Committee sponsors the collection of non-perishable food items for those in need. The items are delivered to People-to-People of Nyack for distribution.

"Well-Read" Day

The first Well-Read Day was held on May 4th, 2005. In this event, members of the faculty, staff, or administration wearing red were able to purchase raffle tickets for gift certificates to Barnes and Noble Bookstores. Proceeds went towards the College's team total for the Annual Heart Walk.
